Meet the pastor
Rev. Juan P. Gunthrie
Rev. Juan P. Guthrie had been the Pastor of Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC since July, 2005. Before arriving in Washington, DC, He has served Cameron, Mount Vernon, Second Mocksville Presbyterian Churches in Salem Presbytery of North Carolina. He spent a decade in New York City, NY as the Pastor of Mt. Morris Ascension Presbyterian Church. While in New York City, Rev. Guthrie was very active in the Harlem community of Upper Manhattan.
Rev. Guthrie continued a long tradition of strong leadership at Sargent Memorial Church, because Rev. Guthrie was only the 4th Pastor since 1922. Sargent Memorial Church continues to be excited about the future ministry and growth of the church after 19 years of Pastorial leadership from Rev. Guthrie who completed his tenure as Pastor in June, 2024. He’s currently the Stated Supply Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC since January, 2025. Faith Church is a dynamic worshipping congregation that has a long, strong community service relationship with the Congress Heights in South East area of the District of Columbia.
Rev. Guthrie is a native of Greensboro, NC and he is an alumnus of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC with Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, as well as Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Divinity. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. He has a son, Micah and a daughter, Micailah.
